Stylist Penny Bennett gives us a glimpse into what we have to look forward to from the Spring/Summer 11 collections, with her top three trends and tips on how to wear them.

1. Yellow and Blue

The unlikely pairing of yellow and blue is very on trend. Lemons, highlighter yellow, electric mustard and bright blonde were common on the catwalks of NYC, London, Milan and Paris. However, odd as this might be, what is interesting and noteworthy was their exclusivity with blue.

Who: Paul & Joe, DVF, Vanessa Bruno

Wear: If the thought of a solid block of yellow, turns you green, got for prints; cobalt and citrus flowers, navy and golden stripes, powder blue and canary swirls.

2. Bold Bikers

We have evolved from aviators this season to bikers for S/S11. As our love of leather has morphed from sky-high inspired garments to the protective gear of the road. Designers have taken direct references from bikers and added sex appeal by cropping and cutting the garments, shaping the wearer.

Who: Balmain, Burberry Prorsum, Alexander Wang

Wear: Exaggerated padding on elbows and knees, short jackets or belted styles that highlight the waist.

Huge flowers, some so big that a single bloom covers an entire outfit. They are not, as one might expect, particularly feminine or pretty but instead more dramatic and striking. Glorious in their abundance, they chime the bells of summer.

Who: Jil Sander, Louis Vuitton, Miu Miu

Wear: massive flowers, leaves and bouquets on liquid fabrics that give movement. If the flower is life size, it is too small.
